Julie Plant

Artist Biography

Junior high introduced Julie formally to the world of art. During her school years she had a pen and ink drawing published in the school newspaper and began oil painting and sculpting.  She was also commissioned to paint a billboard sign for a local business and colored pencil portraits for co-workers.  She took every available art class into her mid college years.

At that time, fearing the starving artist life, she transferred to an accounting degree and became a CPA.   This began an art stagnant period of her life.  Although not  painting for years, she made sure her art supplies moved with her to each new address.   While she waited to resume her art, her curiosity and sense of  adventure led her through Europe and to China, Peru, and Bali in search of the history and mythology she had read about as a child.  Her need to remain creative during this period thrust her into photography, computer graphics, interior design, websites, landscaping, and designing-building furniture and structures.

Now that she is retired, she has resumed painting at her home studio in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  With a studio in the back of the house she can constantly see her works in progress and contemplate the next step as guided by her intuition.

Although established as a person, she considers herself still emerging as an artist while she explores subject matter and techniques to discover what will become her mark. So far, she has ruled out landscapes and still lifes as being too realistic.  Much of her work is currently expressionist, figurative, and inventive.  She is influenced by the impressionist painters like Claude Monet and Sergei Bongart, as well as Gustav Klimt. She is attracted to the energy and flamboyant activities and festivals like Mardi Gras and Carnaval as well as the sensual quiet of ethnic and spiritual subjects.

She has sold work through galleries, art exhibitions, and to friends.  She has also donated original works to charity fundraisers.
